LimeChat App Reviews

great client

this client is great. what they dont tell you is that the app also imports pictures when a url is detected so you dont need to follow every link. it does need to have a bit more extensibility, rather than using apple scripts. other than that i think that the developer should be proud of his/her accomplishments. great job.

What a great IRC client!!!!

I have tried many different IRC clients for Mac and this one is by far the best I have used. Being able to view multiple channels in one window is great. I especially love it when I am in a private chat with someone, and I am still able to monitor the full channel. The split screen single window design works great. I use the 3 column layout instead of the 2 column layout (pictured), which is easy to switch to using the preferance panel. I couldnt ask for a better "FREE" IRC chat client. Keep up the great work!

#1 Pick

dont know bout beginners, but as for the advanced users of IRC. This is ideal. I started IRC with windows xp, sense i migrated to Macintosh. Limechat works for me. Helps if you know the IRC commands.

really good

maybe one of the noteworthy app store apps

An OK app, but doesnt automatically reconnect

I see this app not always automatically reconnecting after a disconnect. I checked the preference setting. Its getting a bit old.

Irssi on steroids

Great layout, theme options is nice. Reminds me of an Irssi on steriods. Props due to the developers

Got me right back into IRC

Its been awhile and I didnt want to re-google every IRSSI setting under the sun to configure it from homebrew. Downloaded LimeChat and was up and running in minutes. Thanks!

i like it, but

But i would really like it more if it was in tray rather then in dock

What I expect from an OS X IRC application

Looks very good, even without any customization. I love running this in fullscreen mode. It has exactly the type of dark theme youd expect from a nice IRC client while also being a native OS X program. Functionality youd expect from a client is all there. No gripes.

Works great for me

As a total noob on IRC - I bumped into this application via the app store, downloaded, got it working and all is fine.

Outstanding

If youre one of the twenty-six people left on Earth that still use IRC, this is the best Mac app for it. Its pretty much perfect.

No DCC Chat? Not full featured?

I spent a long time trying to figure out what I was doing wrong when trying to connect to a server (or whatever the heck its called in IRC) and kept repeating the same steps only to discover that DCC is not supported or I couldnt figure out how to get it to work. I did the same steps in a different application and no problem. I was following the right steps to connect, but since LimeChat doesnt support DCC I was stuck. Please add DCC chat. I enjoy LimeChat so much more than the other application Im using, but cant use it because it lacks DCC chat.

Elegant, simple, perfect

Great simple IRC client. Would recommend to any mac users. Only request would be adding Solarized themes as optional default themes =)

Just found out it was in the App Store!

I have used this application daily for close to a year! This is the perfect IRC client for Mac, It is easy to use and works without issue! I highly reccomend trying it out if you use visit IRC chats.

Nice little app

It works well although I had trouble at first getting it to work with Twitch.tv. Reconnecing seemed to work but time will tell if it’s reliable. Twitch is notorious for dropping messages so this seems like a better alternative but if it’s not reliable then it kind of defeats the purpose. Otherwise, this is a nice app. 5 stars if you add suppot for PNG images in chat… emotes and icons, like in Twitch.

Great

Great simple easy to use lightweight IRC client.

Find doesn’t work

Edit->Find is disabled and doesn’t work. The only option available in “Use Selection for Find CMD-E” Selecting all does not allow Find to work either.

keeps forgetting (NickServ) password

I really like LimeChat: it has a great look and feature set. I was bit by the NickServ password bug, but that appears to be fixed in the most recent version.
